Has anyone had the alternative surgery to gastric byp, the lap band?

My daughters step mother of 17 yrs had one on Oct 12th 2006, I would love to ask her how it is going but she died Oct 16th 2006 of complications. She was 42 and left behind a 6 yr old son. Get off your and exercises and join weight watchers.. I have lost 50 lbs and have learned there are no quick fixes as much as we would love for them to be. Loosing weight is great...but not worth dying for.
